Schools are not just a place to get grades and diplomas. Schools are facilities that meet the basic needs of every child. Children basically have a need for education that unwittingly provides other functions. You need to pay attention to how the school functions. But beforehand, let's see what are the most basic functions of the school.
School Function
The school has five main functions. These five functions will be explained in the points below.
Acquiring Academic Knowledge and Ability
The first function of the school is to help students gain academic knowledge and abilities. At school students get various lessons ranging from reading, counting, religious knowledge, science, social, technology, art, sports and so forth. Some academic subjects can sometimes only be obtained from schools. Here, we can see from how certain knowledge is given and trained so that children have special abilities.
Develop Skills
In addition to providing training in the academic field, another function is to develop skills needed by children in their daily lives and when they enter the workforce. The skills in question can be either hard skills or soft skills.
Hard skills are related to the ability of children to master science, technology, musical instruments, science, and other things that are more technical. Meanwhile, soft skills are more directed at the ability of children to master themselves and relate to others such as, working together, socializing, leading, and others. These skills are mostly honed in school. This is where the functions of the school are fulfilled ie when the child's skills can increase and develop.
Train Cooperation and Socialization
The next function of the school is to facilitate children to be able to work together and socialize with others. At school, children meet with many people with different roles. Children become familiar with their position. At their home as a child and communicating with parents, at school they are students who study together with friends and teachers. Surely at school children will socialize a lot with other students, whether they are playing or when studying in class. In fact, under certain conditions they have to work together to do tasks or other things.
Realize the ideals
The function of the school is to realize the ideals of children. Every child has shown interest in something since childhood. In fact they already have an orientation towards the work they are interested in which is known as an ideal. For children in kindergarten age, they can choose a number of jobs as their ideals and facilitate children to be able to achieve these goals.
Some occupations require certain levels of education such as at least high school / vocational school or college. This is based on the skills needed and is judged to have been obtained at that level of education. In essence, abilities and skills acquired in schools are expected to create superior personalities in accordance with their respective ideals.
Creating a person who is moral and virtuous
The last function of the school is to equip children with commendable traits and characters. All children need to develop not only as an intelligent generation, but also virtuous. At school, education is given not only to increase knowledge, but also to shape the character of children. Some ways schools shape the character of children such as demanding children to be disciplined in school rules, honest with themselves and others, persevering and enthusiastic in learning, and many more things that are taught in schools to shape the child's personality.
