How to Learn to Read Fast for Kindergarten Children

30 August 2020 00:00

Most children are able to pronounce letter by letter well, but still can't read a full word. For that, you as a parent must find a way to learn to read that is fast and effective to apply to your child. Because after children are able to memorize letters, they should be ready to go to the full reading stage.

Reading actually has to be passed by spelling it first. Good reading skills will be obtained by children through a series of learning to read with structured stages. Once the child is able to spell, you can take the following steps as an effective way to teach children to read without spelling.

Mastering syllables consisting of 2 letters

The first way to learn to read without spelling can be done by training children to read syllables. Syllables are word fragments containing 2-4 letters of the alphabet that symbolize certain sounds, for example "ma", "ta", "per", "meng", and others. To be able to read completely, children must be trained to pronounce these syllables.

Teach children how to read a syllable consisting of 2 characters of the alphabet. Also use a structured learning system starting from combining the first consonant in the alphabet with the five vowels. So if the consonant letter of the alphabet consists of BCDFGHJKLMNPQRSTVWXYZ, and the vowel consists of AIUEO, then you can provide syllables consisting of the letter "B" and a vowel letter. So that the order of learning to read the first syllable is "BA", "BI", "BU", "BE", and "BO". The syllable arrangement is then continued according to the order of the consonant letters. In addition to training the ability to pronounce syllables, this learning method can also stimulate the memorization of letters that children have mastered. Therefore, you can apply this method of learning to read to children after they have successfully memorized the letters of the alphabet.

Mastering syllables consisting of 3 and more letters

In addition to the basic syllable which consists of 2 pairs of alphabetic characters, teaching children syllables consisting of 3 or more characters is also important as a way of learning to read without spelling. Letters as word components have various syllable forms.

Start teaching children how to read syllables consisting of 3 characters such as "nan", "pan", "ber", "ter", and other examples of syllables. Also teach your child how to read the additional letters in Indonesian (“ng” and “ny”) and their sounds when combined with vowels. Because not all syllable compositions consisting of 3 or more alphabetic characters are available and have meaning in Indonesian. Just teach children the types of 3-4 character syllables that are useful in conversation and daily writing activities.

Teach children to read a wider variety of simple words

The next way to learn to read is to teach children to read words. Choose words that are simple and have 2-3 syllables. For example, by using the word 'read', teach children to read slowly from the left of the writing to the right of the writing starting from "mem", "ba", "ca". This of course requires sufficient mastery of spelling, therefore it is better if the ability to read syllables has been learned well by children. This way of learning to read simple words is very well applied to children.

In order to obtain maximum results in applying the way of learning to read in children, it is also important to provide children with good education. Education is one way to support children's growth and development. Enroll your child in formal and informal education that can help the child's growth according to their potential.

Inclusive schools apply teaching based on the different potentials and abilities of children. In addition, inclusive schools support the inequality of children's abilities and see this as something unique and must be respected. Because basically all children have different capacities, interests, talents, psychological conditions, and potentials, so that teaching requires different treatment.

Inclusion schools educate children by knowing the character and characteristics of each child first. This is done so that children receive teaching according to their portions and interests, so as to create a pleasant teaching-learning atmosphere. The education system implemented by inclusive schools is proven to be able to produce graduates who are not less competitive with children from conventional schools or even superior.
