The Teacher-Centered Learning Approach

The purpose of this approach is for students to obtain certain information without being shaken by other information. Teachers are positioned as people who are all-knowing and all-right.
Advantages of a Teacher-Centered Learning Approach
The strength of the teacher-centered learning approach lies in the certainty of information received by students. You don't need to worry that your child will get incorrect information about the lesson, because the teacher tends to expressly convey the lesson and the references used. Thus, children will receive information younger without having to find out from other sources. The purpose of learning done will also be more easily achieved because the teacher gives a definite direction in the class.
Weaknesses of Teacher-Centered Learning Approaches
The weakness of this model learning approach is that students tend to be passive in class. Because the center of activity lies only in the teacher and students only take on the role of the audience. Students usually just sit still and watch the teacher explain on the blackboard or through the help of slides. The information or lessons learned are also limited to the teacher's explanation. Students become dependent on the teacher and are not accustomed to finding out from other sources.
A Student-Centered Learning Approach
Understanding student-centered learning approaches or known as Student-Center Learning is an approach method that is centered on the needs, interests, talents and abilities of students. With this learning approach model, students are not too dependent on the teacher. Students tend to have freedom in obtaining lessons from various sources. In addition, students can also be more active, creative, and can learn from each other, either by group discussion methods, group presentations, or in the form of quizzes or games. In the classroom using this learning approach, students will get used to being competitive with others.
Strengths of the Student-Centered Learning Approach
The advantage of this learning approach is that students are trained to be creative, competitive, active, and independent in learning. Students no longer depend on the notes provided by the teacher, but rather have their own notes or even their own methods obtained from book references or tutoring assistance. Even between groups of students with another possibility of discussion and exchange of information. Sometimes in the classroom, students will appear who act as little teachers who are responsible for the group. That way, the knowledge gained by students becomes wider. Students can look superior and stay brilliant when outside the classroom.
Lack of a Student-Centered Learning Approach
Even though the teacher is no longer the center of learning in the classroom, the teacher must still be in control. In a student-centered learning approach, the teacher becomes more difficult to manage the class, because students tend to be active with one another.
